I started Pearl Picks after never really being totally satisfied with all the many different styles of guitar picks I've tried and thus I wished to create something better. I believe these picks are superior to anything I've ever played and provide an unrivaled tone, ease of playing, and as well as these essential pick charateristics, they look amazing. Consquence to the nature of the material used, every single pick is different - these are all custom/hand made. For the same reason picks made from raw shell will have a slight curve to them (though this fits ones thumb quite comfortably as a grip!) however, pics made from 'blanks' will be nice & flat. Please note when contemplating how thick you want your pick that Mother of pearl has NO flex to it.
Paua shell can be made any size but only super thin, Paua *Blanks* can be made up to 2mm thick and at max, 2.3cm's high
Isn't it brittle?
No - Other than the Paua shell, no. I have tried a Paua shell pick on a guitar of a 27" scale length, with a string tuned to B using a .1 bass strings - no problem with even very agressive playing, but with your strength, if you try to snap a Paua shell pick, you probably can. All other picks are solid.
What's with the restrictions on certain sizes/shapes/materials?
Due to the nature of Mother Of Pearl, it's very hard to get some of it in more desireable sizes especially in the case of Paua, the large Paua I do have is a very, very thin shell, the thicker stuff I have is very very small...
